BREATHWORK

Learning to breathe changed so much for me. Simple yet profound. This process goes on unnoticed in the background of our life, yet is absolutely vital to living well and at ease. Even so, we give little thought to it.

 In my book – ‘The Space Between: Breast cancer & finding me’  – I share my experience during radiotherapy treatment where all the many months I spent doing breathwork practice each day meant that I was able to cope with a stressful situation with ease and, at times, humour.  

 

Breathwork has continued to play an important role in my well-being journey. I learnt how to use our breath as the doorway into my body and nervous system and how it can lead the mind towards a calmer state of meditation. As a way of sharing the power of breathwork I developed an online workshop  – Breathing Space.

The workshop is a mix of teaching and practice. There is an overview of the biology behind our breathing, how breathing plays a unique role in our autonomic nervous system, an opportunity to bring awareness to how you breath and learn specfic breathing techniques.  The first step to living in harmony with our breath and body is to get to know them.  When we develop an understanding of what our body is telling us we can begin to improve our well-being – mentally and physically.

The workshop is delivered through an online classroom and offers many practical applications for your own life.

I have bad anxiety and panic attacks from a previous relationship which the doctors prescribed pills for. They were helpful but the side effects outweighed the positives and I decided to come off them and take control of my life again without pills. 

 

Results after one session: 

 

Jacqui was extremely helpful and understanding in what I was going through which really helped start the journey for mediation. After going through what I wanted out of the session she was able to tailor it to my needs. Something as simple as breathing correctly has made a vast difference after just one session and how to reground myself and take back control when intrusive thoughts pop into my head. Everything was extremely relaxed and I felt at ease with what Jacqui was telling me and felt a lot lighter knowing I can do this without the need of medication and have been able to adapt it into my everyday life when I have a spare moment to just sit and breathe and relax myself. 

The recordings sent to me also have been so helpful as if I think I’m doing it wrong I can listen to them on what I should be doing and switch myself off from surrounding issues.
