ABOUT ME

Life is full, precious, and can be unavoidably hard but we only get one shot so I firmly believe we need to find our power in stillness, seek love, laughter and most importantly, always be ourselves.

I am a physio, meditator, mentor, writer, activist and mother to two incredible humans  – who bring meaning and a joyous reminder of why any of this matters.

With a Masters in Engineering and BSc in Physiotherapy, I ran my own private clinic for 13 years, furthering my professional training with world leading clinicians.

In 2021, I sold the business after my cancer treatment to focus on my health and explore other interests – completing accredited Teacher Trainings in both Yoga and Meditation, and developing my writing. My memoir,  The Space Between: Breast Cancer & Finding Me, was published the following year.

Discovering the profound joy of writing has ignited a vivid passion within me. I found cathartic energy for life in its healing power and a way to craft words to share unique insights and perspectives. My work, including my Substack, explores how we adapt to life’s transitions and  challenges and the role meditation, rigorous, honest enquiry and reflection play in personal growth,  moving us closer towards what we value.

After my child came out, I needed to ruthlessly examine my  own beliefs, biases and prejudices as I searched out a path to acceptance. This led to a strengthening of family relationships and building new ones within the trans community.

I champion the rights of transgender people through my work as an ambassador, speaker and campaigner for FFLAG, the UK charity supporting families of LGBTQ+ individuals. I speak to corporations about my experience as a parent of a trans child and have taken part in Parliamentary briefings for MPs on the reality of the impact of government policies on trans people.

I am also part of NION Women (Not In Our Name), a collective of women who believe trans people deserve to live with dignity, safety and freedom from discrimination. We are speaking up because others have claimed to represent us and they do not.

My current book project hopes to examine ways in which our fear of what we do not know hurts us all. In it, I show how healing requires us to build new relationships both with ourselves and beyond our comfort zone, and how activism without self-compassion robs us of our passion for change.

My activism, and writing, is underpinned by my deep understanding of the power of a personal story to facilitate change and I have been able to feed this back into my work with clients across my therapies, meditation and mentoring.

Life is full, precious, and can be unavoidably hard but we only get one shot so I firmly believe we need to find our power in stillness, seek love, laughter and most importantly, always be ourselves.

PACKING OUR BAGS AND FOREVER

moving on

The beauty of never arriving. But the fear of it ending too soon.

There is nothing like a cancer diagnosis to change our perspective on life. To bring what matters into sharp focus. To stop us making excuses and putting things off.

How often do we say we want a particular thing out of life but then we do something contradictory instead?

I WANTED TO

for myself and others
